Course Overview

This interesting four-hour workshop will give participants a good working knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the heart and how to perform a competent electrocardiogram (ECG). The workshop will cover the following: 

  1. Basic anatomy and physiology of the heart, including the conduction system
  2. A basic understanding or normal sinus rhythm and some common arrhythmias
  3. Indications for an ECG
  4. ECG safety and patient considerations
  5. Accurate lead placement
  6. Identifying and troubleshooting trace abnormalities
  7. Documentation and post procedural care 

This workshop gives staff the theoretical knowledge required to undertake this skill. However, they are required to obtain further sign off in their own clinical area through, observed practice, before they can perform this skill independently.

The course is for any registered or non-registered healthcare professionals required to perform ECGs in their clinical practice.

Faculty

The course lead is Kerry Laffan, however you could also be taught by Chloe Alvey, as they both teach ECG, Cannulation and Venepuncture
