This workshop will fulfill stage 3 of the NHS IV Therapy Passport process and enable registered nurses to progress onto stage 4, observed assessment in their own clinical areas.

This great one-day course involves taught theory sessions in the morning and a practical workshop in the afternoon to consolidate learnt skills. Participants will attend sessions on:

  • Indications & prescriptions
  • Drug calculations & preparation
  • Administration & equipment
  • Errors, mistakes & incident reporting

The afternoon workshop will enable participants to practise medication calculations, preparation and mock administration of the different types of IV therapy, including bolus medication, intermittent infusions and continuous infusions. There will also be an opportunity to review medication charts and identify errors, alongside case discussions on error management.

This workshop gives staff the theoretical knowledge and confidence to administer IV medications, however they will be required to perform supervised practice and be clinically signed as competent in their own clinical area.
